Outside In
Through my art practice, I'm interested in recognizing the gray area in between our civilization and the surrounding nature. I prefer to perceive a fluid and gradual change from one side to the other rather than drawing a clear borderline between them.
Throughout history, many rulers, regardless of time of geographical locations, have often tried to separate inside and outside of their territories by building walls around their civilization in order to protect themselves from outsiders, such as animals, insects, weather, diseases, enemies, etc., and also confined their people within the wall. The attempt of separating inside and outside is still a big subject for every nation today.
After seeing former President Donald Trump building the wall on the US-Mexico border and setting the travel restrictions against the Muslim countries, in 2018 I started a series of drawings "Outside-In" to express my interest in softening of the borderline with human bodies as a metapher of a nation.
